Ep. 22: Mike Metzger, CEO of PayScale

Mike Metzger, CEO of PayScale

If you are a newly minted college graduate and wanting to create wealth, or even if you are established in a career already, you probably need to prep for a salary negotiation, you’ve likely done some research to figure out what your worth, and what jobs are paying in a particular industry.

Smart employers know that when you pay right, you attract and retain the best talent. Smart employees know that it’s important to understand what your skills are worth in the marketplace – and in today’s world that equation can be changing rapidly, especially in the technology hotbeds of Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, New York and others.

This is why I’m super pumped to have Mike Metzger, the CEO of PayScale on today’s show. Payscale is the the world’s leading provider of precise, on-demand compensation data and software. It’s their mission to empower employers and employees to have better conversations around pay.

More than 6,500 customers, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, use PayScale to power pay decisions for over 18 million employees.

You can find out more about Payscale by visiting their website: www.payscale.com

In addition, Mike discusses the latest data in gender pay gap, and women in tech, stem, and executive roles.

As an entrepreneur and business owner myself, compensation decisions and missteps can have lots of unintended consequences. But what I have I found that it’s important to align compensation with the outcomes I wanted to achieve in the business, and I needed to be transparent about how the compensation system was being designed. My own fear about stepping into these conversations fully has negatively impacted me in the past and is something I’ve worked hard to change.

For this reason, I thought that sitting down with one of the country’s leading compensation experts would be helpful and interesting. I hope you take a few minutes to listen to the show!
